2021 Busan Design Week culminated in great success

 

• More than 200 design companies participated in Busan Design Week, the first exhibition specializing in design in Busan, and recorded 10,000 visitors.
• BDW has stepped up its leap to the global design festival introducing a wealth of design content and products.

The 2021 Busan Design Week (BDW) was held at BEXCO Exhibition Hall 2 in Busan for four days from June 17 to 20.

Even though this year was the first time, for four days, workers in the design industry, students from related departments, and citizens interested in design visited one after another, recording 10,000 cumulative visitors, confirming the region's desire for colorful design brands and contents that were not easily accessible in Busan.

More than 200 design companies participated in the exhibition. Brand exhibitions such as contemporary design, creative and sensual product design, sustainable design considering the environment, and graphic design that shows visual identity were exhibited. Special exhibitions on local content in Busan, Ulsan, and South Gyeongsang Province, such as "Makers in Busan," introduce designers and regional brands in creative and sensual areas, and "Youth Handmaker Training Project," which is implemented as a regional-led youth job creation project.

Special exhibitions such as the "2021 Busan International Design Awards" exhibition hall and designer Park Jong-sun's "Design in screens_Park Jong-sun," which designed furniture in the movie Parasite, and the "Design Collection" involving more than 20 galleries, also attracted visitors.

At the Busan Global Design Forum, which was held as an auxiliary event, experts in the creative industry were invited to share the most advanced information on global design, including Anton Hawkevist, the Ikea interior design leader, and other famous designers.

Kim Sung-hyun, head of the Global Cooperation TF team, said, “Starting this year, it has prepared an opportunity for design and the public to communicate directly in Busan. We will do our best to find more content as a regional hub to develop the global design industry.”
